Westerly girls, Bishop Hendricken boys clean up - Rhode Island State Meet Recap 2019

Fitzsimmons Dominant With Three Wins For Moses Brown

It was a repeat performance on Saturday at Brown University, as both the Westerly girls and Bishop Hendricken boys won the Rhode Island State Track and Field team championships. 

Moses Brown junior Marybeth Fitzsimmons collected three gold medals on the afternoon, winning the long jump in 19-1.25, the 100 (12.20) and set a state-meet record in the 200, running 24.05. 

In the middle distance events, Portsmouth senior Nikki Merrill defended her 800 (2:16.06) and 1,500 (4:34.15) titles. 

Helena Hall-Thomsen from Westerly won the 400 meters in 56.62 seconds. 

Barrington's Annika Kelly set a meet record in the hammer, tossing 189-9. 

In the boys events, junior Sean Faganled Bishop Hendricken, winning the 110 hurdles (14.70) and 300 hurdles (39.68). In the 3,000 meters, Bishop Hendricken claimed four of the top six spots but all were chasing junior Maxwell DiMuccio of La Salle Academy (8:28.75).

Jaylen Smith from Shea won a close race in the 100 meters against Central's Nathaniel Barjolo, 10.72 to 10.74, into a headwind.

Darius Kipyego of St. Raphael won the 800 in 1:52.17.

Sophomore Logan Coles of Woonsocket won the boys hammer throw with 222-10.

Boys: Bishop Hendricken 134 points 

Girls: Westerly 68 points
